A Long Rant About Style

I have never been very good at dressing myself. Let's just put that out there. For as long as I've been able to dress myself, I've pretty much just worn jeans or leggings and t-shirts and called it a day. When I was 3 my favorite t-shirt was pink with a sparkly graphic of The Little Mermaid and I wore elastic-waist acid wash jeans. In high school and college I wore a lot of American Eagle jeans and American Apparel t-shirts. And these days, the t-shirt in question is usually a solid color, and … [Read more...]

The High School Graduation Speech I Wish I’d Given

I graduated from high school nine whole years ago, which both seems like a really long time and no time at all. I was the VP of my senior class, and as such, gave the opening speech at my high school graduation ceremony. I don't remember much of what I said, but I'm sure I congratulated everyone in my high school class for being amazing and having accomplished so much already and of-course-you-will-go-on-to-do-great-things because what other option is there when you're 18 years old? Now that I'm not in finals mayhem anymore, I've been doing a lot more cooking and baking and a little bit less persuading Brandon to go out to tacos every night. It's been a while since I really had time to try out new recipes beyond our go-to meat and veggies combo (usually steak, shredded beef from the crock pot, or salmon, plus broccoli or green beans, and maybe also rice or taters), and it's been a REALLY long time since I baked anything for some reason, even though I really kind of love to … [Read more...]

Back in the Gym… Finally!

My new BFF, the 10-pound wall ball.

When I first found out I was pregnant, I immediately started scouring the internet for information about working out while growing a human. Right away, I came across a quote that I love and have kept in my mind as I've made decisions about my nutrition and exercise in the past 4 months: If you knew you were going to run a marathon in 6 months, you would start training; why not start preparing your body now for labor? And it's SO true. Labor and delivery is a multi-day event that takes … [Read more...]

Body Image, Meet Pregnancy

I tried on my first pair of maternity jeans yesterday. They were boyfriend jeans that I ordered from J.Crew that just had a few big elastic panels along the sides instead of having the full-on maternity waistband. I was super excited at the thought of comfy, baggy-yet-somehow-also-slimming, stylish jeans that I could wear for the next few months. But I put them on, and something about the waistband just grabbed all the flesh around my hips and hoisted it up so that it sat prominently on top of … [Read more...]
